CHARLES HAMILTON HOUSTON INSTITUTE, INC, IS SPONSORING A PARENTS CONFERENCE ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15, 2008 AT THE YOUTH EMPOWERMENT ACADEMY AT 149 E. WILSON STREET. FROM 9:00 a.m. until 2:00p.m.
WE ARE ASKING PARENTS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN TO ATTEND TO LEARN HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR CHILDREN BE SUCCESSFUL AND HEALTHY IN SCHOOL.

· Overview of programs for youth

Education Fellows Presentation

John Odom, President of the Institute will be giving a presentation on campus to a group of education students who belong to the Education Fellows program. The event will take place Wednesday, January 31st from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Education Building on Bascom Hill. There is a lower level conference room where the group meets you will see it once you walk in to the main door. John will be talking about YEA and STARS.
MLK Day Read-in

On January 15, the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute invited dozens of area school children to learn the words and understand the message of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Institute’s first Martin Luther King Day Read-in. At the event, kids sang happy birthday to Dr. King, learned about the nation’s struggle for equality, and even listened to a story about civil rights leaders read by Wisconsin’s first lady Jessica Doyle.
